Position Summary:
The Director of Safety will work to ensure that all employees in RESA Power Solutions, in any location, are provided the appropriate training, tools, facilitation and leadership required to stay safe and healthy. Collaborate with managers to ensure all employees are provided with the tools required in order to be accountable for HSE results and able to carry out their HSE duties. Working conditions will be assessed and measured with HSE performance prioritized based on the level of HSE risk. Implement actions to reduce risks as low as reasonable and practicable for all locations. The role will report directly to the COO.

 

Responsibilities & Duties: 

  • Ensure that performance is aligned with and positively impacts the business objectives of the Corporation/BA/BU and Region.
  • Effectively develop and articulate the HSE strategy and approach to external and internal constituents.
  • Assist management at all levels in meeting their health and safety obligations by clarifying roles and responsibilities, providing the necessary support and tools, as well as measuring progress with regards to management systems implementation.
  • Establish regional HSE networks for effective inter BA/BU communication and alignment
  • Staying abreast of current country, federal and state laws and regulations relevant to the HSE function. Proactively prepare for impact/implications of proposed regulatory and legislative activities.
  • Provide HSE strategy and planning expertise to local and regional management.
  • Work closely with all areas of the region to institute industry leading best practice safety solutions (e.g. benchmarking, “behavior-based” safety, etc.) that are consistent with Corporate and BA/BU goals and objectives; partner with senior leadership across the organization to bring cohesiveness and synergy to the Company’s approach to safety issues throughout business operations.
  • Implement, maintain workable health and safety management systems approaches and implement effective management systems components.
  • Follow-up on and debrief on any critical event including leading the investigation of the event and implementation of corrective actions; distributing insights, best-practices and lessons learned to sites
  • Provide incident investigation assistance utilizing root cause analysis techniques.
  • Lead and co-ordinate regional HSE network, sharing best practice for region across all BU’s.
  • Drive initiatives and influence the implementation of major HSE initiatives within the region.
  • Emergency response coordination (shared with HR); focal point, involve all BU’s in exercises.
  • Measure key metrics that drive the effectiveness of health and safety activities across business units.
  • Perform cross-auditing of sites/facilities/operations.
  • Accountable for mentoring HSE and operations professionals to develop outstanding capability and performance in the HSE field.
  • Monitor HSE budgets & utilization efficiency of HSE resources
  • Implement & execute Regional HSE Operating Principles.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement (auditing, investigations, operating system)
  • Develop necessary training programs & partner with business leaders to ensure effective execution

  • 8+ years direct HSE experience with 5+ years in a leadership role managing personnel.
  • Extensive knowledge of HSE in a manufacturing and field service environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of regulatory requirements.
